da Vinci^® Robotic Prostatectomy

This type of minimally invasive surgery uses a robotic device to create tiny incisions in the abdomen through which the cancerous prostate is removed. Your surgeon is located at a console near the patient and uses hand controls to maneuver the robotic device. Benefits include decreased blood loss, shorter hospital stay and faster recovery times. Perineal Prostatectomy

Your surgeon creates an incision in the perineum (the muscles and skin between the scrotum and the anus) through which the prostate is removed. This approach to prostate removal may lead to shorter recovery times than other approaches.

Nerve-Sparing Radical Prostatectomy

In some cases, the bundles of nerves on either side of the prostate may be cancer-free. In this case, we may be able to spare those nerves. This allows you to begin having erections again two to 18 months after the surgery.

Brachytherapy

This type of radiation therapy involves implanting rice-sized radioactive “seeds” in the prostate. Your doctor implants the seeds through a needle guided by ultrasound. Once in place, the seeds release a low dose of radiation during an extended period of time. The seeds eventually stop giving off radiation and do not need to be removed.

Provenge Immunotherapy

Provenge may be an appropriate therapy for advanced prostate cancer patients and is designed to stimulate a patient’s immune system to target prostate cancer cells. Each dose is manufactured specifically for the patient using his own immune cells. Read more about Provenge>>
