Female Impotence Tests & Diagnosis PDF Print E-mail

There are many causes of sexual dysfunction in women.

  • Arthritis
  • Hormonal changes
  • Low estrogen levels
  • Pelvic surgery (recent)
  • Psychological/social
  • Neurological conditions
  • Side effect of medications such as antidepressants or blood pressure medicine
  • Vaginal dryness

To develop the most helpful treatment plan, your doctor may use one or more of the following diagnostic tests:

Medical History: Your doctor will ask a series of questions to better understand symptoms, medical history and any underlying conditions (both physical and psychological) that may be causing the condition.

Physical Exam: Your doctor may perform a pelvic exam to evaluate the genital tissue, discover any scarring or decreased skin elasticity.

Pap Smear: During the exam, the physician may remove a small number of cells from the outer opening of the cervix to test for any abnormalities that may indicate pre-cancer.

Once the diagnostic tests are complete, we work closely with you to create the most appropriate treatment plan for your needs, lifestyle and treatment preferences.
