The prostate is a small male reproductive gland located beneath the bladder. The urethra, a tube that transports urine and semen out of the body, passes through the prostate; when the prostate is enlarged, urination is affected.

Enlarged prostate or Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) is a very common condition for aging men. An estimated 50 percent of men ages 60 and older and an estimated 90 percent of men ages 70 and older have BPH.

The cause of BPH is not known, but it is thought to be related to hormonal changes that affect men as they age.

  • Blood in urine
  • Frequent urination
