Advanced Urology First in Denver and Colorado to Perform GreenLight™ XPS Laser Therapy for Benign Prostate Hyperplasia/Enlarged Prostate Treatment
About Enlarged Prostate/Benign Prostate Hyperplasia (BPH)Enlarged prostate/BPH is an extremely common condition, affecting an estimated 50 percent of men ages 60 and older and an estimated 90 percent of men ages 70 and older. Men suffering from this condition have a non-cancerous growth of the prostate that squeezes the urethra (through which urine passes) making urination difficult. While the cause is unknown, experts believe it simply may be related to hormonal changes that affect men as they age. Traditional Prostate Treatment with TURPTraditionally, the gold standard of treatment for enlarged prostate/BPH has been transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) when a section of the prostate is removed through the urethra. This surgery, while extremely effective, requires hospitalization and catheterization (placement of a catheter for urination) for at least 48 hours. In addition, it comes with all the risks associated with undergoing anesthesia, post-operative bleeding and other surgical complications. Minimally Invasive GreenLight Laser TherapyGreenLight Laser Therapy is a less invasive option that offers the same results of traditional TURP without the bothersome side effects. Instead of cutting tissue (as in the TURP procedure), this technique uses a laser to vaporize tissue, creating a channel through which men can urinate more freely. Benefits of this procedure include:
Additionally, there have been less than one percent of reported cases of post-operative erectile dysfunction with this procedure. New XPS Laser Even More EfficientThe new XPS (Xcelerated Performance System) is a recent improvement on the GreenLight Laser Therapy. Released in early 2010, the XPS laser offers an even faster, more efficient procedure, a longer laser fiber life and improved coagulation (blood clotting). |

Enlarged Prostate/BPH

"GreenLight Laser Therapy offers many benefits over traditional TURP (transurethral resection of the prostate) surgery," Dr. Sarram explains. "This procedure is virtually bloodless and offers rapid urine flow improvement as well as a quick return to activity. The new XPS laser system improves upon this already excellent treatment by making the procedure more efficient, without compromising safety."
