Erectile Dysfunction Tests & Diagnosis PDF Print E-mail

Often, erectile dysfunction occurs as a symptom of a larger, more serious problem (such as high blood pressure, diabetes, drug and alcohol abuse). It also may be the result of psychological problems such as stress, depression or anxiety.

We may use one or more of the following tests to determine the cause and severity of erectile dysfunction.

History and Physical Exam: Your doctor asks you a series of questions to learn more about his lifestyle and what may be affecting his erectile function. He then will perform a physical examination of the penis and testicles, checking the nerves in the area for proper function.

Blood and Urine Tests: Collecting a small sample of blood or urine, the team tests the sample for the presence of heart disease, diabetes or low testosterone levels.

Ultrasound (or Doppler Study): This non-invasive scan is used to take images of the penis and testicles to determine if there are any blood flow problems.

Once we have determined the cause and severity of erectile dysfunction, we work closely with you to create a treatment plan that fits his medical needs, lifestyle and preferences.
