Female Impotence Treatment Options PDF Print E-mail

Often, female impotence treatment requires a medication adjustment or a treatment for an underlying condition. Below are a few of the options we may recommend:

Communication Therapy

We encourage the patient to enhance communication with her sexual partner to work together through any psychological or social causes of the dysfunction. Simple talking and listening can make significant changes in a patient’s sexual experience.

Lifestyle Changes

Decreasing or stopping drug and alcohol use, quitting smoking, losing weight  and/or exercising may help increase sexual desire and function.

Kegel Exercises

Strengthening the pelvic floor through Kegel exercises has proven beneficial to many women who are experiencing sexual difficulties.

Counseling

Some women may benefit from psychological counseling to overcome negative sexual experiences or other difficult associations with a positive sexual experience.

Hormone Therapy

Localized estrogen therapy, in the form of vaginal rings, creams or tablets may help increase sexual function. While still somewhat controversial, androgen (male hormone) therapy also has proved effective for some women. Male hormones are applied using creams, gel patches, pills or through injections.
