Dr. Sorce Receives Two Awards from American Registry PDF Print E-mail

Dr. Damian Sorce, UrologistAugust 10, 2010: Advanced Urology’s Damian Sorce, MD, board-certified urologist, has been honored with the American Registry’s 2009 Patients’ Choice Award for top online patient rankings and the 2009 On-Time Physician Award for being one of America's shortest wait-time doctors.

2009 Patients' Choice Award

Patiens' Choice Award In 2009, more than 60,000 doctors were reviewed online by their patients each month, but less than six percent of these doctors received top reviews in all categories. The American Registry’s Patients’ Choice award recognizes doctors for continually receiving top ratings from patients on several criteria, including helpfulness, accuracy of diagnosis, bedside manner and follow-up care.

2009 On-Time Physician Award

As the recipient of the 2009 On-Time Physician Award, Dr. Sorce’s patients said he respected their time and was consistently prompt with appointments, making him a highly reliable and considerate practitioner.

PSA Still Excellent Tool for Detecting Prostate Cancer PDF Print E-mail

Recent reports have brought into question the necessity of the prostate-specific antigen (PSA) screening tool for prostate cancer detection; arguing it is almost too effective, leading to over-diagnosis and unneeded procedures. Because there are different types of prostate cancer — up to 24 types with varying degrees of aggressiveness according to University of Michigan researchers — the PSA test is unable to differentiate between the different types, and, therefore, some believe it no longer should be offered for routine screening. However, until an effective alternative is discovered, the PSA test will continue to save lives when offered with patient education and careful consultation and application.
