The prostate is a small male reproductive system gland located beneath the bladder. Prostate cancer occurs when prostate gland cells begin to grow abnormally. Those at highest risk for prostate cancer are of African-American descent and ages 60 and older. Prostate cancer is the third most common cause of cancer death in men, and the most common cause of cancer death in men ages 75 and older.
